UK Women's League
WGwEL's senior women, produced another solid performance in the second match of the UK Women's League Premier Division. They again placed 5th on 158 points, only 10 away form 3rd, and remain 5th overall in the League table. In a good all round team performance where many athletes competed in more than one event, the highlight perhaps from an individual perspective was, Stephanie Aneto's personal best and Commonwealth Games qualifying mark in the triple jump.
Stephanie Aneto's fine personal best in the triple jump, only placed 3rd in a competition, won by former World and Commonwealth champion, Trecia Smith of Jamaica. Stephanie's personal best of 13.22m (+1.3) is 2cm over the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark, places her 4th on this year's UK rankings. In the "B" event Zainab Ceesay placed 2nd with 12.63m (+0.4). There were also good points in the long jump, Kim Murray was 4th in the "A" with 5.81m (-0.4), and heptathlete, Gemma Weetman, making her Woodford debut placed 2nd in the "B" with 5.68m (+0.2). Gemma also gained valuable points in the 100mH , where she placed 3rd with 14.84 secs (-0.4), and in the "B" javelin with 33.32 m for 5th. In the "A" javelin, Emma Smith threw a season's best of 43.81m to place 2nd. Jo Duncan gained valuable points as always, placing 4th in the shot with 14.06m, and also 6th in the "B" discus with 34.05m, as Hollie Redman placed 6th in the "A" wit h 37.75m. In the high jump, junior, Sam Moodie placed 4th with 1.65m, whilst in the "B" Kristina Blackett filled in admirably, placing 4th with 1.45m, and later placed 4th in the "B" 200m with 26.39 secs (-1.0). The pole vault was a high standard competition, where Louise Shortland found 3.60m only good enough for 6th, as Kirsty McIntosh placed 4th in the "B" with 3.20m.
The track action had opened with controversy in the 400mH. Former Commonwealth Games representative, Tracey Duncan, comfortably won, but due to ground staff error, did so with one hurdle missing. In the end, and with her margin of victory, the result stood for the match purposes, but without a time being awarded. In the "B" race there was also good points as Emily Moss placed 2nd with 62.45 secs, before later picking up further good points in 5th in the "B" 100mH with 18.05 secs. In the other sprints, Rachel Giwa, placed 5th in the 100m with 12.48 secs (-0.4), and Katie Skelding was 4th in the "B" 1n 12.34 secs (-0.7). Later, Rachel was 6th in the 200m, in a season's best of 25.10 secs (+0.8), whilst Katie was 6th in the "A" 400m, in a fine new personal best of 55.84 secs. In the middle distances, Katherine Foy was 8th in the 800m with 2m19.59 secs, and Nusrat Ceesay, unable to compete in her specialist events over the hurdles, placed 6th in a very rare outing over 800m in the "B" race with 2m 24.36 secs. Lauren Stewart, doubled at both 3000m and 1500m, placing 7th in the former "A" race with 10m41.59 secs, and 7th in the latter "B" race with 5m11.37 secs.
