Woodford Open Graded Meeting 30th August 2011
A flat calm at Ashton on Tuesday was neither a help nor a hindrance to the athletes in recording their times and distances. The stillness of the evening was disturbed by many good performances, though. In the field, Peter Kirabo (U20) sailed out to a 14.22 m reading to top the triple jump competition whilst Hugh Williams (U17), at a safe distance, was putting a 6kg shot to 12.33 m. On the track, Jonathan Browne (Kent AC) produced an easy looking 10.80 secs (w/s -0.4 m/s) in the fastest heat of the 100m. In the 1500m, David Butler (V55 Billericay Striders) consolidated his third place in the national rankings for his age group with a time of 4 mins 36.38 secs. In the same race, Jessica Sparke had stopped the clock at 4 mins 17.78 secs to round out a series of consistent performances during the summer. The flat 3000m saw Ben Nagy (Enfield and Haringey) gradually pull away from the Club's BAL steeplechasers Ryan McKinlay and Tomaz Plibersek on his way to crossing the line at 8 mins 27.24 secs.
So ended the 2011 series of open graded meetings. Our thanks to all the officials and helpers. We look forward to seeing all those who took part and any athletes who would like to do so next year.
