In addition to Matt MacLaughlin's fine run in Ireland, there were a number of other useful performances from Woodford athletes, both at home and abroad. Most notable perhaps were fine performances in the US from Shana Cox, Sam Watts and David McCarthy
Racing in College Station, Texas, Sam Watts bounced back from a relatively modest 60m where he placed 3rd in his race with 7.01 secs, to comfortably win over 200m, recording 21.21 secs, a mark which sees him currently top of the UK rankings. Also competing abroad were Kitty Eleyae, and Tara Bird. Kitty competed for England in Bratislava, Slovakia where she placed 4th in the long jump with 6.07m, and Tara was also in Dublin where she placed 5th over 800m with 2m06.89 secs.
There was also news of another fine middle distance performance from a Woodford athlete. New member, Irishman David McCarthy, finished a very creditable 2nd to Galen Rupp over 1 mile in Boston, clocking 3m57.22 secs. Also competing in the US, in Chicago, Shana Cox won over 400m with 53.35 secs, a week after racing over distance at 800m where she placed 2nd in a race at Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2m16.10 secs
Several competed in the London Games at Lee Valley. Junior, Joseph Dewar recorded two personal bests over 60m of 6.89 secs and 6.88 secs, in winning the U/20 60m races and also long jumped 6.76m. Also recording personal bests was Omololu Abiodun with times of 7.00 secs and 6.96 secs. Dan Davis was also in good form with 6.97 secs twice, having run a bit quicker at Newham a few days earlier and recorded 6.89 secs twice. Other marks from Lee Valley over 60m included; Jason Greenidge 7.13 secs and 7,.11 secs; Adrian Stamp 7.13 secs and 7.12 secs; Sylvester Juwe 7.14 secs: Keke St Hillaire 7.54 secs,and in the women's events, Katie Skelding recorded 7.98 secs and 8.05 secs. Over 400m Mike Baker recorded 50.31 secs and Kekee St Hillaire 52.46s. In the field, Ayamba Akim cleared 1.70m in the high jump, Peter Karibo recorded 14.20m in the triple jump, and Ebony Bobb-Semple 4.71m in the long jump.
Other marks from Newham included Jordan Kirby-Polidore with 6.94 secs over 60m, and Adrian Stamp with 7.26 secs and 7.13 secs.
Competing for England in Vienna on Tuesday evening, former Olympic 100mH finalist, Sarah Claxton won twice over 60mH with times of 8.11 secs and 8.14 secs, moving her to the top of the UK rankings. In the long jump at the same meeting Ezekiel Ewulo placed 2nd with 7.49m
