Inter Counties CC Championships: Seniors

Many of our distance and middle-distance athletes were in action at the weekend.

We had 5 athletes representing their counties at the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham on Saturday. Sara Bird was a very good 45th running for Suffolk in a field of 291 finishers in the women's race. Ed Shepherd, just 19 and running for Hertfordshire, was a terrific 48th in his first senior men's Inter Counties. Tom Beedell, the Epping-based Bucks champion, was able to hold off Angus Holford (Essex) by just six seconds, 124th and 130th. And Harold Wyber was Essex's 6th scorer in the 6-to-score competition, 42" behind Holford in 160th.

In the Trafford 10K, Martyn Cryer performed excellently to clock 30.42 for 11th place, while Pete Matthews under-performed, running 32.05 for 26th.

At the Welsh Athletics Indoor International in Cardiff, Matt McLaughlin won the U20 800m race in 1min 52.00secs, while Tom Phillips was 3rd in the Mile, in 4mins 13.29secs.

In the Park Run at Valentines Park, M40 Jim Roche was 2nd in 17.34, and M50 Tony Pamphilon 4th in 17.59. W35 Kat Gundersen was 1st woman and 8th overall in 18.46.

At the Wanstead Flats Park Run, M50 Alun Evans was 5th in 19.42, Stuart Phillips 18th in 23.36 and former long jumper Nick Dowsett 21st in 24.20.

Andrew Clare, just starting back after injury, was 8th in the Wimbledon Park Run in 19.20.
